Mants'ase Children's Home received a Christmas visit on the 19th December from Her Majesty Queen 'Masenate Mohato Seeiso.
The Queen is Patron of the home and said that her visit was an opportunity to celebrate with the children over the festive period; when other children were rejoicing with their parents and receiving gifts.
Each child received gifts of new clothes and shoes, a towel, toothbrush and toys from the Queen, who also made a ZAR5000 donation to the home.
Mrs. Mampe Moeletsi-Leteba, the Education and Counselling Manager at Mants'ase, said that the Queen's gesture was greatly appreciated. 'The gifts of clothes and shoes came at the right time when we couldn't afford to buy the children Christmas clothes let alone shoes. The shoes will serve as school shoes for the children when schools open'.
The visit also provided much appreciated exposure for Mants'ase and it was reported by Lesotho's media with news of the day on the television and radio and in the newspapers.
Mants'ase Children's Home caters for up to 49 children aged between two and 18, many of whom have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The Children's Home has developed their own poultry project to generate an income for the daily running of Mants'ase, but they still rely heavily on donations.
The Queen's visit was greatly appreciated by all of the Mants'ase children and staff, and the generous and much needed donation and gifts were gratefully received.
