The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic in May this year has raised over $400,000 for Sentebales work supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho. The American Friends of Sentebale were kindly selected to be the beneficiary of the match.
This donation will help us to continue to expand our work on the ground in Lesotho, reaching even more children in need. With the HIV/AIDS pandemic still ravaging the country and leaving hundreds of thousands of children without parents, our work is vital.
Through our partnership work with grass roots organisations, we are both transforming childrens lives as well as giving them a future. We are changing the lives of children like Lebo every day.
Lebo is just ten years old. Her mother died of HIV/AIDS and her father is mentally handicapped. She had to leave school as there was no one to care for her younger brothers. One of her brothers needs special care as he has HIV as well as TB. Lebo is responsible for her whole family, cooking and caring for them, with no one to look after her.
Through working with a local care centre, we are providing Lebo with support looking after her family so that she can go back to school, and making sure that Lebo and her family get clothes, food and medication. It is only through support such as this, in partnership with local organisations, that Lesothos children can not only have a childhood, but a chance at a future as well.
Please note that this child's name has been changed to protect their identity.
