10 December - Sentebale were fortunate to be selected as one of over 100 charities worldwide to benefit from ICAPs 16th annual global Charity Day. The fun filled fundraising day raised a record global total of £11 million.
The financial broker firm ICAP have a charity day every year to raise funds for selected charities. The traders all wear fancy dress and all revenues and commissions from the day are given away to charity. The firms annual fundraisers have now raised over £42 million for charity.
Sentebale's Patron Prince Harry joined in with the fundraising efforts and closed a £10 billion deal while he was there, know as a '10 yard' trade in the City. As Prince Harry toured the busy trading floors he met staff in an impressive array of fancy dress including pirates, Star Wars Storm Troopers, pilots, builders and doctors.
The money Sentebale will receive from ICAP will fund Phase II of building work at the Thuso Centre. This will complete the new assessment and training facility with accommodation for staff, volunteers and parents at the Thuso Centre. This funding will also include the recruitment of new staff for the Centre.
This work will complete our plans with the Ministry of Education to transform the Thuso Centre into a National Referral Assessment and Teaching Centre of Excellence for the North of Lesotho. The Thuso Centre was in a poor state or repair, with few specialist facilities for the disabled children before this work started.
Following Phase I and the work and financial support of the Burnaby Blue Foundation and Expedition, the Centre has already been transformed. There are now disabled facilities in the bathrooms, ramps, a playground, refurbished and redecorated buildings, and new kitchen and dormitory equipment.
Sentebale could not be more grateful to ICAP and all those involved in raising such an impressive amount of money.
