New classroom at Maliphofu School is officially open!

The new classroom.

June - Sentebale has completed building a new classroom in Mantsonyanye at Maliphofu School, and it has been officially opened by Prince Seeiso and Prince Harry. The Princes unveiled a plaque to open the school amid celebrations and festivities with local Chiefs, children and members of the community.

The new classroom is a vital addition to the previously small and dilapidated single classroom for 130 children ranging in age from 6 to 15. It has been built with funds generously donated by Support for Africa and will provide an enormous boost to the local community.

The classroom has been designed to create a good environment for the children to be taught in, especially as they have experienced such poor conditions to date. The building is bright and conserves energy and keeps itself warm in the winter, while staying cool in the summer. There is a plastic screen on the north side of the building which will help with heat gain and storage.

The colour scheme of blue and yellow was chosen with the school to match the children's school uniform which is in these colours; it promises to brighten up lesson time for the children.

The Ministry of Education is now looking to add to Sentebale's work by building more classrooms for the school, having seen the need of the children in this remote area, where children travel for miles each day just to go to school.
