Sentebale launches major NGO network for Lesotho

Sentebale is to host and run an on-line directory of Lesotho NGOs - to be called Letsema.

The Letsema project is a new initiative conceived at last year's Durham conference of English and Irish charities working in Lesotho.

It was agreed there that the community of international and Lesotho NGOs is dispersed and not well networked.

Basic information about who is doing what where would help enormously and there was a consensus that a searchable, interactive electronic data-base of activity would be a most valuable resource. Sentebale will lead this initiative.

In addition a printed edition of the data-base will be essential for use in Lesotho where access to computers and the internet is limited. It could also be issued on other formats like CD, VCD or DVD. Sentebale has been asked by UNICEF and the Lesotho Department of Health and Social Welfare to produce this version of the data-base as well, which would update an existing Directory of Service Providers for orphans and vulnerable children compiled in 2005.

This project has been christened Letsema as this is the Sesotho word for co-operation.

On 20th March 2007 Sentebale held a planning workshop in Maseru with Lesotho community based organisations to develop a plan for the website and directory.

Sentebale has now appointed an information manager and researcher for the Letsema project.

We hope to launch the first stage of the on-line data-base and printed Directory covering orphans and vulnerable children in July 2007.
