Our Work

Reitumetse Church Project

This community-based children's centre looks after around 62 orphans and vulnerable children – mainly girls – under the management of the incredibly inspiring Sister Gisele. Sister Gisele has dedicated her life to helping Lesotho's children; having spent the last 46 years caring for them and building up a support network for them.

Both the children and the elderly are given quality care, financial, psychosocial, medical, nutritional and educational support. The project also reaches out into the community, helping to provide clean water, adequate housing and clothing for local communities in need.

Reitumetse works with community chiefs to drill bore holes, and they have drilled 2,000 to date, ensuring that families receive vital water supplies. The project has also built 172 homes for destitute families, provided bursaries for nurses, has set up a sewing project to empower women and provides food for HIV patients in clinics. Alongside this there are income generation projects including chicken rearing, a piggery, cows, a bakery and a vegetable garden to provide sustainable support for the children involved in the project, while educating them in these areas.

Sentebale's support is focused on the children within this project, providing funding for two teaching posts, including an IT teacher, and sponsoring 21 scholarships for the children enabling them to get an education.
