Cadet 150 Expedition heads to Lesotho

July 2010 - 2010 is the 150th Year of the Cadet Movement and 'Cadet 150' is its national celebration. As part of the celebrations, 60 Cadets and 10 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers are going on a three week expedition to Lesotho and South Africa.

Prince Harry is Patron of the expedition and during their time in Lesotho, the Cadets will spend some time assisting some of Sentebale's projects.

The 60 cadets, from all three services, will start in South Africa for acclimatisation training and an environmental awareness course before heading to Lesotho to support Sentebale. The cadets will spend 10 days, in harsh and testing conditions as part of their training, assisting four of our projects in the more remote parts of Lesotho. They will then return to South Africa to visit the Zulu War battlefields of Isandlwhana & Rorkes Drift.

Prince Harry attended a training day for the Cadets in Wales in April; the Cadets were taking part in a 25km walk in the Black Mountains. He encouraged them as they prepared for their visit and talked about the effect of going to Lesotho and meeting the children there:

“Once you have met them your lives will be very, very different because you will have an understanding you never thought you would of the way people have to live out there”.

This expedition to South Africa and Lesotho is being run by an organisation called Outposts. While in Lesotho the Cadets will spend some of thier time with Sentebale partners - Semonkong Children's Centre, St Leonards, Touching Tiny Lives and Phelisanong.
