Sentebale, Unicef and Alliance Francaise hosted Fethi Tabet, a group of French speaking musicians from Algeria, Brazil and France. The purpose behind the visit was to raise funds for children living on Lesotho's streets.
The group travelled around Lesotho, and concerts were played in Maseru, Morija, Mohale's Hoek, Semonkong, Mokhotlong and Mazenod.
The first performance in Maseru was targeted at attracting street children. Members of the Sentebale staff and three Social Workers went out to meet the street children before the concert, providing a great opportunity to build up a relationship with them. Over twenty homeless children were interviewed and profiles were made of them, providing a great starting point to help them in the future.
The Lesotho Girl Guides Association were a great support in networking with the children as they work closely with them already.
The concerts were a great success; the children responded well and really enjoyed the music. Food was served during the performances, providing an opportunity to give the children a much needed nutritious meal.
Fethi Tabet performed for children in care at various organisations including the Methodist Children's Centre in Semonkong, the Reitumetse Church Project Orphanage, Mants'ase Children's Home, St Bernadette's and for children at the Scott Hospitalin Morija.
The performances were rounded off with a fundraising concert in Maseru. Money raised through tickets sales and donations is to be pledged towards improving the lives of Lesotho's street children.
